Description Jackal

Jackal is a dangerous memory resident multipartite virus. On execution of infected file it traces INT 13h, 15h, 21h, 40h and then hooks them. Then this virus hits MBR of hard drive, it changes the address of active boot sector and writes itself at this address. On system booting the virus body will be executed instead of original boot sector. Then this virus writes itself at the end of COM- and EXE-files that are accessed.
Sometimes it calls trigger routine, this routine formats the hard drive sectors. The virus hooks INT 9 (keyboard) also and on Alt-Ctrl-Del pressing it tries to stay memory resident after rebooting: it restores the interrupt table, clears the screen e.t.c.
This virus contains the internal string "JaĻckĻal".

It is a harmless nonmemory resident polymorphic parasitic virus. It searches for .COM files in the current directory, then writes itself to the end of the file.
The virus uses an extremely complex polymorphic engine, and it is expected that lot of anti-virus programs will have problems with detecting this virus. The "SoulManager" virus encrypts itself by several polymorphic loops, each loop has lot of junk instructions, junk loops, calls to DOS functions (INT 21h) and anti-debugging tricks. This engine is one of the most complex that are known today.
The virus contains the text strings:

It is not a dangerous nonmemory resident encrypted parasitic virus. It searches for .COM files, then writes itself to the end of the file. Depending on its generation the virus displays the message:
Bad command or file name

and leaves a small memory resident program that hooks INT 8 (timer) and in some time displays the messages:
Unsuspecting user, 12 o'clock!
Get readyall 'cause... THERE'S A VIRUS IN YOUR SOUP!
