These are nonmemory resident parasitic viruses. They search for .COM files and write themselves to the end of the file. They are related to the "Grog" viruses. Joe.589 It is a harmless virus. While infecting it uses System File Tables. It contains the text strings: Joe Anthro (C) '93 by GROG - Italy Joe Anthro era un'autorita' sulla cultura egiziana e babilonese. Il suo massimo risultato, tuttavia, era la sua famosa opera sulla suinicultura.
Joe.1089 It is a dangerous polymorphic virus. If the length of the file that is infecting is lesser than 4 bytes, this virus overwrites it with the text: +-[Grog]-¦ L'inverno era gia' tornato un'altra volta ed era tempo per Joe l'Esquimese di ritirare le sue mucche polari. It's a not memory resident dangerous parasitic virus. It searches for .EXE-files and writes itself to their ends. It searches for C:DASHEL file and if this file is present, the virus erases the disk sectors. It also erases the sectors in several other cases.

This is a very dangerous nonresident virus. As an infected file is executed, it infects by standard way not more than one COM file in all current directories of all available disks though it does not infect COMMAND.COM. Depending on the timer and its own internal counters, the virus displays the text: DATACRIME VIRUS RELEASED: 1 MARCH 1989 After that it makes an attempt to format some tracks of the hard disk.
