Description Shire Family

These are relatively harmless non-memory resident parasitic viruses. They search for .COM files of the current directory and infect them. "Shire.143 and 155" write themselves to the beginning of the file, although other viruses write their code to the end of the file. "Shire.155, 210, 220, and 300" are encrypted viruses.
On Thursdays, "Shire.149" displays a message (see the strings below), "Shire.300" runs itself by some video effect.
The viruses contain the following text strings:

Gad-Fly Family

Description Gad-Fly Family

These are dangerous memory resident parasitic viruses. They hook INT 21h and write themselves to the middle of the COMMAND.COM file when the system is executing or opening that file. The viruses contain the internal text strings:
"Gad-Fly.629": Gad-fly
"Gad-Fly.646": The Revenger

While installing into the system memory, or while opening *.CAL or *.PRG files, and depending on the system timer the virus hooks INT 10h and upper-cases the symbols that are displayed. The virus also may delete the *.CAL and *.PRG files.

Depending on its counter and the system timer that virus erases the disk sectors.

Galeocerdo.600

Description Galeocerdo.600

This is a relatively harmless non-memory resident parasitic virus. It searches for COM-files and writes itself to their end. It searches and infects the files that are of internal COM-format, but with a .EXE file name extension, these files are infected in the same way as .COM-files. It adds 100 to the year value of the system date. On Thursdays, it corrupts the system BIOS data. It contains the following internal text string:
